Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure where fat is removed via suction. The procedure can be done in-office, depending on the amount to be removed, with minimal down time.
It’s important not to confuse liposuction with other cosmetic procedures. In this post we will break down exactly what it can do for your body and what you won’t be able to achieve with just liposuction alone.
What Can Liposuction Realistically Achieve For Your Body?
Liposuction is a great option for those looking to remove excess fat on their body. This can include fat accumulated in the stomach area, love handles, lower back, arms, thighs and more.
This is also a great option for body contouring. With an artistic eye and hand, your surgeon may be able to etch in abdominal lines, snatch in your waist and remove fat on your lower back to create the appearance of a larger backside. Below is a great example of abdominal etching done in a patient of ours.
Another reason people opt to get liposuction is because no matter what they do, they can’t seem to get rid of fat in those stubborn places. Sometimes this could be the “bra line” fat, the fat that accumulates in your armpits, underneath your arms or even the extra little bit still on your stomach. Unfortunately even with going to the gym, we can not spot reduce our fat. No matter how much we workout there are areas on the body that will sometimes remain the same and that’s where liposuction can help to get rid of those pesky areas.
What Liposuction CAN’T Achieve…
Liposuction is NOT a form of weight loss. Exercise and healthy eating are the most important factors in weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.
Liposuction also can’t remove excess skin. Often times, people confuse liposuction with a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck tightens loose muscles and removes any excess skin, however, liposuction does not. Liposuction is much less invasive and only removes fat. It does not do anything for loose muscles or excess/overhanging skin.
Liposuction can’t give you a different body type. Often times we have people coming into the office wanting to look like a famous model or celebrity. Although, we can drastically improve/tweak your appearance, we can’t give you a body type that you do not have. Some people have naturally smaller frames while others are built a little wider and broader. We always tell our patients to look for before images of people or images of people in general that have a similar frame to theirs to get a more realistic idea of results.
If you feel liposuction may be the right procedure for you, we encourage you to schedule a free consultation to discuss your desired results and gain more information. We are currently holding specials on this procedure through the month of July! To learn more about this click below…
