At Ambay Plastic Surgery, we believe you deserve to look your absolute best. Our deep plane facelift is an advanced surgical technique that goes beyond the skin and outer layers of the face. The facial rejuvenation procedure targets the SMAS layer, which is comprised of muscle and fascia. It works by vertically repositioning the soft tissue in the middle of the face upwards, creating a more lifted, youthful appearance.
When considering a deep plane facelift vs a regular facelift, a key difference is that this technique lifts both the skin and the SMAS layer together, minimizing the risk of an overly tight look and producing a natural, seamless result. It is a sophisticated procedure that can yield undeniably stunning results when performed by our award-winning, double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Raj Ambay. Discover the possibilities, and schedule your consultation today!
READ MOREDouble board‑certified Dr. Ambay begins with meticulous mapping of each patient’s facial anatomy, tailoring vector lifts that harmonize proportions and minimize tension. Using specialized instruments, he limits tissue trauma and places incisions in inconspicuous creases, prioritizing safety, symmetry, and a discreet outcome.
By gently shifting deep tissue layers upward, Dr. Ambay’s deep-plane lift delivers a sculpted, rejuvenated silhouette along the jawline. The 5–6 hour operation vertically repositions the mid and lower face to refine facial and neck contours; the duration can extend when combined with a brow lift, laser resurfacing, or fat grafting. Although it follows our standard facelift protocols, this approach includes key adjustments that target deeper facial layers for a longer-lasting, natural lift.
To lift the muscle and fascia in the middle of the face, the deep plane facelift requires the release of the retaining ligaments in the cheeks, neck, and jawline that would otherwise prevent the tissue from moving.
Once the ligaments are released, the muscle and soft connective tissue that make up the SMAS, or superficial musculoaponeurotic system, are carefully lifted upwards to their original position. This resolves the appearance of any sagging or drooping in the face.
Depending on the patient, if facial volume needs to be restored because of atrophy, fat grafting from other parts of the body or dermal fillers will be done before surgery. The deep plane lift is then performed immediately after.
As the deep plane facelift specifically addresses the middle and lower part of the face, other procedures, including brow lifts and blepharoplasty, may be performed in conjunction. Laser resurfacing to address sun damage and wrinkling may also be performed alongside the deep plane facelift.
Small, discreet incisions are made around the ears and hairline, allowing access to deeper facial structures. Once the lifting and repositioning are complete, the incisions are meticulously closed using fine sutures to minimize scarring. While some patients may experience deep plane facelift scars, Dr. Ambay’s techniques are designed to ensure that any scarring is subtle and easily concealable, resulting in a smooth and seamless outcome.
While your deep plane facelift is highly personalized for your face and your desired results, ideal candidates for this procedure share some common attributes:
